Zepto Delivery Boy Attacked
A violent attack in Surat has raised serious concerns about gig worker safety. A 22-year-old Zepto delivery agent, Mohit Tanna, suffered stab wounds and blunt force trauma after he reported his supervisor for theft.
Mohit accused his supervisor of stealing, which allegedly triggered the retaliation. Soon after filing the report, he faced a brutal assault involving a knife and an iron rod. Despite the severity of the attack, Mohit survived and is now receiving treatment while remaining in stable condition.
The Surat Police quickly responded to the case. They arrested three suspects, including a minor, who allegedly carried out the assault to take revenge.
Zepto immediately began an internal inquiry and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement. The company also announced plans to strengthen its worker protection protocols.
This disturbing event highlights the vulnerability of gig workers. Delivery professionals often operate alone in unpredictable environments, leaving them exposed to threats. As a result, many labor rights advocates are demanding stricter laws and faster response systems to protect workers.
This case doesn’t just expose a workplace safety issue—it demands accountability from companies and regulators alike.
