GUVNL to Rebid Battery Deals
The central government has asked Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) to open fresh bids for battery projects worth ₹3,100 crore. Earlier, contracts went to Gensol Engineering. However, concerns over the awarding process led to a review.
Officials found that a large part of Gensol’s ₹7,000-crore project pipeline depended on deals with public sector firms. Therefore, the Centre advised a fresh bidding round to ensure transparency.
Experts believe this decision will attract more clean energy companies. As a result, Gujarat’s storage sector could become more competitive.
New tender guidelines are expected soon. These will focus on open competition, better checks, and stronger regulations. Fresh bidding could rebuild trust in the region’s large-scale energy projects.
