Nidhi Tewari: PM Modi’s New Private Secretary

Nidhi Tewari, a 2014-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has been appointed as the Private Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She hails from Mehmurganj in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, which is also the Prime Minister’s parliamentary constituency. Before clearing the Civil Services Examination, where she secured the 96th rank in 2013, Tewari worked as an Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax) in Varanasi. She joined the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as an Under Secretary in 2022 and was promoted to Deputy Secretary in January 2023, handling the ‘Foreign and Security’ division and reporting to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Her appointment as Private Secretary was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and is effective immediately.
